Gogo Receives EASA Approval for DC Plane Simple Ka-band Antenna for Gulfstream G280
Leading global provider of broadband connectivity services, Gogo (NASDAQ: GOGO), has recently obtained Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) approval from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) for a direct current (DC) variant of the Plane Simple® Ka-band tail mount terminal designed for Gulfstream G280 aircraft. This marks a significant milestone as it is the first time a Plane Simple antenna has received regulatory approval for a terminal powered by direct current rather than alternating current (AC). The DC option enables the distribution of high-speed broadband, powered by the Viasat Jet ConneX service, to passengers and crew traveling on the agile, super midsized jet.
The collaboration with Gulfstream and Jet Aviation played a crucial role in achieving the STC, with the antenna installation carried out by Jet Aviation at its maintenance center in Basel, Switzerland. The aftermarket solution is now available for installation through authorized Gulfstream and Jet Aviation Service Centers worldwide.
The DC Plane Simple Ka-band antenna will cater to the connectivity needs of a large German automotive supplier who owns the G280 aircraft. It will offer uninterrupted global connectivity coverage, supporting a range of digitally heavy applications such as video streaming, live TV, video calls, file transfers, gaming, and virtual private networks. Passengers can expect to stay productive during flights, with the antenna connecting seamlessly with existing Viasat GX satellites and future next-generation GX satellites, promising enhanced data transmission capabilities. Additionally, customers will benefit from the comprehensive support and cybersecurity services offered by the Gogo ecosystem.
“The latest STC approval underscores our commitment to providing a diverse range of products to meet the connectivity needs of all business aircraft operators. Our adaptable products are designed to integrate with various airframe configurations while ensuring high-speed broadband connectivity that evolves with the changing landscape. We are dedicated to making our connectivity solutions accessible to all owners seeking reliable connectivity, and this STC reaffirms our commitment to serving the diverse missions of our business aviation, military, and government clientele,” said Dave Falberg, Gogo’s Senior Vice President Sales, EMEA.
Developed in partnership with QEST, a renowned provider of aeronautical antennas, the advanced technology hardware of the Plane Simple terminal comprises just two line replaceable units, minimizing installation times, reducing maintenance costs, and optimizing cabin space utilization by locating the system in the unpressurized part of the fuselage. Gogo also offers cabin connectivity service plans for both in-production and legacy aircraft under the Gulfstream Connectivity Service program.
