The sudden passing of the Member of Parliament for Akwatia, Ernest Yaw Kumi, has left a deep void in both the legislative body and the hearts of his constituents. Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has extended his heartfelt condolences to the family of the late MP, acknowledging the shock and pain felt by all who knew him.

The exact cause of Mr Kumi’s untimely death has not been disclosed, but his colleagues in Parliament remember him as a likeable individual with no history of controversy or disputes. In a tribute on the floor of Parliament, Afenyo-Markin highlighted the profound impact that Kumi had during his time in the House, both at the plenary and committee levels. He praised Kumi for embodying the qualities of a good sibling and for living by the principles of righteousness and respect for others.

The House has adjourned its sitting to honor the late MP, with members reflecting on his dedicated service on the Lands and Natural Resources Committee and the House Committee. Mr Kumi’s tenure in Parliament began after a hard-fought election in 2024, where he emerged victorious on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party. Despite the legal challenges that followed his win, Kumi remained committed to serving his constituents and upholding the values of democracy.

As the nation mourns the loss of a promising young legislator, the legacy of Ernest Yaw Kumi will be remembered for his integrity, dedication, and unwavering commitment to public service. The outpouring of support and tributes from colleagues, constituents, and political leaders is a testament to the impact he had on those around him. May his soul rest in peace.
