The Ghana Institution of Engineering (GhIE) is gearing up for its highly anticipated 2025 Engineering Conference and Annual General Meeting (AGM) scheduled to take place from 24th March to 29th March in Accra. The event promises to bring together a diverse group of engineering professionals, technologists, technicians, and craftsmen for a week of knowledge sharing, networking, and recognition of excellence in the field of engineering.

The week-long conference kicked off with the Youth in Engineering Forum and the Engineering Craftsmen Forum on Monday, 24th March, followed by a warm welcome to international delegates in the evening. The official Opening Ceremony took place on Tuesday, 25th March at the prestigious Movenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra.

One of the highlights of the event is the 55th AGM scheduled for Thursday morning, 27th March at the Engineering Centre in Roman Ridge, Accra. This year’s AGM will also feature the Presidential Investiture, where Ing. Kwabena Bempong will pass on the presidency to President-Elect, Ing. Ludwig Hesse, in a symbolic ceremony on Thursday evening.

The conference will culminate with a grand Banquet/Dinner Dance on Friday, 28th March at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel, where the Engineering Excellence Awards will be presented to outstanding individuals, organizations, and students who have made significant contributions to the field of engineering.

As part of the conference activities, a golf tournament is scheduled for Saturday morning, 29th March to promote fitness and camaraderie among the members after a week of intensive discussions and events.

Ing. Kwabena Bempong, the President of GhIE, expressed his excitement about the conference, noting that it is expected to attract world leaders in the engineering profession, including representatives from the World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO), Federation of African Engineering Organizations (FAEO), and West African Federation of Engineering Organizations (WAFEO). The President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, and other sector ministers are also expected to attend the opening ceremony.

The theme of this year’s conference, “Urbanization and Smart Cities: Engineering the Future of Ghana,” reflects the current challenges of urbanization and the potential of smart city concepts to transform Ghana. The event will feature technical paper presentations, panel discussions focusing on Women in Engineering, and ample networking opportunities.

International engineering partners from countries such as Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Kenya, Rwanda, and Burkina Faso are expected to participate in the conference, fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange among professionals in the region.

Ing. Samuel Magnus Asiedu emphasized the importance of continuous professional development, noting that attendees will earn 9 CPD points for participating in the conference. The annual GhIE Conference and AGM serves as a platform for engineering practitioners to exchange ideas, collaborate on projects, and make important decisions that shape the future of the engineering profession in Ghana.

Overall, the 2025 GhIE Engineering Conference promises to be a dynamic and engaging event that will showcase the best of engineering innovation and expertise in Ghana and beyond.
