Dutch defender Jeremie Frimpong recently revealed that the Ghana Football Association (GFA) had approached him with the aim of convincing him to play for the Black Stars of Ghana. Frimpong, who is 22 years old and plays as a wing-back for Bayer Leverkusen, was one of the players the GFA had hoped to persuade to represent Ghana, a four-time African champions.

Despite the GFA’s efforts, Frimpong ultimately decided to choose the Netherlands over Ghana. In an interview with 3Sports, he shared that he had considered Ghana’s proposal but ultimately aligned himself with the Dutch national team due to their belief in his potential.

“I considered playing for Ghana, and the Ghana Football Association (GFA) did make contact with me. But Holland was always the first to come, and they were the country that believed in me.”

Having made 15 appearances for Bayer Leverkusen this season and scoring two goals in the Bundesliga, Frimpong has established himself as a key player for both club and country.

Frimpong’s Generosity Shines Through

During a recent visit to Ghana, Frimpong displayed his philanthropic side by donating items worth over GH₵30,000 to the Osu Children’s Home in Accra. The donation included Bayer Leverkusen jerseys for the home’s school team, along with other essentials.

Expressing his delight at being able to give back to his roots, Frimpong stated, “I’ve always wanted to do this, but I needed to be in the right position to provide. Of course, I play football for my family, but now I can also help others. This is what I want to do, especially in Africa. This is where I’m from; I have Ghanaian blood. Putting a smile on the faces of these kids is what it’s all about.”
