Man Sentenced to 30 Years for Role in Crime Group Burglarizing Marijuana Dispensaries in Denver
A man involved in a crime group that targeted marijuana dispensaries in the Denver area has been sentenced to 30 years in prison, according to Denver prosecutors.
Genero Zuniga, 21, accepted a plea deal this week, pleading guilty to three felony charges, including violating Colorado’s Organized Crimes Act, second-degree burglary, and robbery. Zuniga was arrested in December and was linked to five armed robberies, 21 burglaries, and 11 attempted burglaries, most of which targeted marijuana dispensaries.
The plea deal resulted in the dismissal of 84 additional charges against Zuniga, including multiple counts of burglary, theft, robbery, and more. Zuniga was part of a larger organized crime operation that included 23 individuals. This group was responsible for stealing cars and using them to break into marijuana dispensaries, federal firearms licensees, and other businesses between September 2022 and November 2023.
According to Denver prosecutors, the two crime groups burglarized over 40 marijuana dispensaries, making off with nearly $800,000 in cash and property. The District Attorney’s Office has been actively pursuing these cases to ensure accountability for the crimes committed.
