GCB Bank PLC has recently announced the appointment of Aurelia Baaba Ofori Odame as the new Head of Afro-Asia Trade and State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs). In her new role, Ms. Ofori Odame will be responsible for overseeing the bank’s strategy in strengthening trade relations between Africa and Asia, as well as expanding financial services to SOEs in key sectors such as agriculture, energy, health, transport, and telecommunications.
Managing Director of GCB Bank, Farihan Alhassan, expressed his confidence in Ms. Ofori Odame’s ability to deliver on the bank’s objectives of deepening regional trade links and enhancing collaboration with public sector institutions. He emphasized the importance of tailored financial solutions, sustainable trade finance, and advisory services in improving offerings to SOEs and trade clients.
Prior to joining GCB Bank, Ms. Ofori Odame led the Africa-China Trade Banking unit at Stanbic Bank, where she played a key role in establishing the bank’s first dedicated Trade Hub for Africa-China and intra-Africa trade. Her accomplishments include facilitating export inflows exceeding USD 350 million and driving the adoption of the Renminbi for trade settlements. With over 17 years of experience in retail, corporate, and commercial banking, she brings a wealth of expertise in trade finance, relationship management, and business development to her new role.
GCB Bank views Ms. Ofori Odame’s appointment as timely, given the growth of the Africa-Asia trade corridor in recent years and the ongoing significance of SOEs in national development. Founded in 1953, GCB Bank operates 184 branches and over 300 ATMs nationwide, serving as one of Ghana’s largest indigenous financial institutions catering to businesses and government entities across various sectors.
