American superstar Chris Brown is set to perform at the FNB Stadium this weekend, and Gautrain has stepped up to ensure safe and convenient travel for concertgoers. The dedicated late-night service and shuttle buses will make it easier for fans to attend the concert on 14 and 15 December.
This initiative is in line with Gauteng’s public transport strategy to support large-scale events and promote tourism in the province. Albi Modise, the Senior Executive Manager for Communication and Marketing at Gautrain Management Agency, highlighted their commitment to enhancing services for major events. He mentioned previous instances where Gautrain had offered free services to welcome the rugby team back from the World Cup and partnered with Prasa for a rugby match at Ellis Park.
For Chris Brown’s concert, the Gautrain’s standard service will be extended, with the last train departing Park Station at midnight. Passengers can pay with contactless bank cards or purchase a Gautrain card for R20. Additionally, a bus shuttle service will connect Park Station to FNB Stadium, with the first shuttle leaving at 11am and the final one departing from the stadium at 11:30pm.
CEO Tshepo Kgobe emphasized that the goal is not just to provide efficient public transport for daily commuters but also for major events. The integrated transport service aims to reduce road congestion, minimize accidents, and encourage the use of public transport over private vehicles.
Overall, Gautrain’s efforts to support major events like Chris Brown’s concert demonstrate their commitment to providing safe and convenient transportation options for the public. This initiative not only benefits concertgoers but also contributes to the growth of tourism in Gauteng.
