The Ga Mantse pledges support for second edition of Democracy Cup
Accra, Aug. 29, GNA – King Nii Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, the Ga Mantse, has expressed his full backing for the upcoming second edition of the Democracy Cup, organized by the Parliament of Ghana.
During the official presentation of the Democracy Cup trophy at his Palace on Friday, 29 August 2025, King Nii Tackie Teiko Tsuru II announced his commitment to purchase 1,000 tickets to help increase attendance for the highly anticipated match between two prestigious Accra clubs.
Encouraging Ghanaians to value and appreciate the country’s democracy, the Ga Mantse emphasized the importance of not taking it for granted.
“We should not take our democracy for granted. I am supporting the Democracy Cup with 1,000 tickets,” King Nii Tackie Teiko Tsuru II stated, as reported by GhanaWeb Sports.
Established by the Speaker of Parliament in 2024, the Democracy Cup has transcended beyond being just a football event. It now serves as a symbol of national unity, bringing together political figures, football enthusiasts, and the public at large.
The upcoming edition is scheduled to take place on Friday, 5 September 2025, at the Legon Stadium. The match will feature a thrilling encounter between Accra giants Hearts of Oak and their city rivals, Great Olympics.
With the support of King Nii Tackie Teiko Tsuru II and other stakeholders, the Democracy Cup is set to be a memorable occasion that showcases the intersection of sports and politics in Ghana.
