Evelyn Korang, a former Eastern Regional Women’s Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), emerged as the winner in the Eastern Region Council of State election held on February 11. She garnered 17 votes out of 66 cast, outshining 23 other candidates vying for the position.
Leading up to the election, there was anticipation of a tight race between Evelyn Korang, the party’s former regional chairman John Owusu Amankwah, Nana Afia Effah Asantewaa Afrifa (a Queenmother and former Board Chairman of the Ghana Tourism Authority), and Seth Adjei Baah, also known as SHABA. However, it was the 59-year-old Evelyn Korang who emerged victorious in the end.
In the final tally, Nana Afia Effah Asantewaa Afrifa secured 12 votes, followed by Asiedu Offei with 9 votes, and John Owusu Amankwah with 8 votes. Evelyn Korang’s victory signals a new chapter in the Eastern Region Council of State representation, as she brings her experience and leadership to the role.
