Pearl Thusi’s Absence at Weekend in the East Festival Sparks Refund Demand
Pearl Thusi, South African actress and media personality, recently found herself at the center of a controversy after failing to attend the ‘Weekend in the East’ festival in Namibia. Event organizer Ludgerus Amushila is now demanding a full refund of N$86,406 (R86,406) from Pearl Thusi’s management, Africa Creative Agency (ACA).
The festival took place at AM Ludgerus Boutique Estate in Rundu, Namibia, on Saturday, 31 May. However, Pearl Thusi was unable to make it due to what she described as ‘intense and unforeseen circumstances’.
According to a report by The Namibian, Amushila is seeking reimbursement for a variety of expenses incurred specifically for Pearl’s participation. This includes a N$40,000 booking fee deposit, N$19,346 for flight tickets, N$8,360 for visas, and N$18,700 for vehicle rental.
All communication and financial transactions regarding Pearl Thusi’s appearance at the festival were conducted through ACA, not directly with the actress herself. Amushila expressed frustration with the situation, stating that ACA initially confirmed the booking, received payment, and arranged logistics, but is now deflecting responsibility for the refund.
In response to the demand for a refund, ACA’s Yvette Gayle clarified that the agency acts solely as a representative for their clients and is not liable for their contractual obligations or performance. Their role is to facilitate bookings, negotiate terms, and collect payments on behalf of their clients.
Prior to the event, Pearl Thusi had issued a public apology for her absence, citing unexpected circumstances that prevented her from attending the festival. She expressed her disappointment at not being able to visit Namibia and interact with her fans.
The situation remains unresolved as Amushila continues to seek reimbursement from ACA, while the agency maintains that they are not responsible for covering the costs associated with Pearl Thusi’s absence. The outcome of this dispute is yet to be determined.
