Ethiopian President Arrives in Uganda for the African Union (AU) Extraordinary Summit on Agriculture – Africa.com

President Taye Atske Selassie of Ethiopia has made his way to Uganda to participate in the African Union Extraordinary Summit on Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP). The summit, which commenced on January 9th, 2025, is set to conclude on January 11th, 2025, at Speke Resort Munyonyo.

Upon his arrival at Entebbe International Airport, President Selassie was warmly welcomed by a distinguished group including Minister for Defence and Veteran Affairs, Hon. Jacob Oboth Oboth, Uganda’s Permanent Representative to the AU and IGAD, Ambassador Rebecca Amuge Otengo, and Uganda’s Ambassador to Sudan, H.E Dr Yahya Ssemuddu. The welcoming committee also comprised of UPDF Air Force Chief of Staff, Brig. Gen. David Gonyi, Uganda Police Chief Political Commissar, AIGP Ubaldo Bamunoba, Assistant Commissioner General of Prisons, Mr. Robert Munanura, and a delegation from the Ethiopian Embassy in Uganda led by Ambassador Etsegenet Yimenu.

The presence of President Selassie at the summit highlights the commitment of Ethiopia towards enhancing agricultural development in Africa. The discussions and deliberations at the summit are crucial in shaping the future of agriculture on the continent and addressing key challenges faced by the agricultural sector.

As the summit progresses, leaders from various African nations will exchange ideas, share best practices, and collaborate on strategies to promote sustainable agriculture and food security. The participation of President Selassie underscores the importance of collective efforts in advancing agriculture as a key driver of economic growth and development in Africa.
