Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (Dr.) recently made a groundbreaking announcement regarding the country’s foray into UAV drone manufacturing. The Prime Minister disclosed that the production of unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) by Sky Wing Industry is not only intended for domestic use but also for export to international markets.
In a ceremony held on Saturday, the Prime Minister inaugurated Sky Wing Industry, a company specializing in the production of drones for both commercial and military purposes. During the event, he emphasized the significance of locally manufacturing drones, stating that such a feat was unimaginable just a few years ago.
Abiy Ahmed highlighted the achievement of producing drones with diverse capabilities by Ethiopia’s young professionals as a major milestone. He stressed the importance of continuous research, expansion of market reach, and strengthening local production of smart sensor technologies to sustain this progress.
While the drones are set for international trade, their primary objective is to enhance the country’s sovereignty and defense capabilities. These drones are designed to operate efficiently at high altitudes and are equipped with counter-drone capabilities to combat airborne threats effectively.
Moreover, the locally manufactured drones utilize cutting-edge artificial intelligence (AI) technology to enhance their operational efficiency. These drones are versatile instruments capable of performing various tactical missions, including offensive, defensive, surveillance, and intelligence-gathering activities.
The Ethiopian leader also highlighted the country’s potential to export these drones to other markets, emphasizing that the development of such capabilities is aimed at preventing conflicts rather than fueling them. To further advance Ethiopia’s position in drone innovation and technology, the Prime Minister called for increased collaboration and research among the organizations involved in this endeavor.
Overall, Ethiopia’s entry into the UAV drone manufacturing sector marks a significant step towards technological advancement and self-reliance. The country’s commitment to producing high-quality drones for both domestic and international markets underscores its determination to contribute to global advancements in aerospace technology.
