Ghanaian weightlifter, Emmanuel Amo Boateng, has made the nation proud by securing three gold medals in the boys’ 71kg division at the African Junior and Youth Weightlifting Championship held at the Gamashie Hall in Accra.
Amo Boateng excelled in both the snatch and clean & jerk events, clinching the top spot in each to become the first athlete to bring home gold for Ghana at the prestigious competition. His outstanding performance contributed to Ghana’s overall medal tally of 13, which included six gold, one silver, and six bronze medals.
In an interview with JoySports following his victory, Amo Boateng expressed his joy and gratitude for the achievement, especially considering the setback he faced with an injury in December. He credited his success to the rigorous training regime and the support from his coaches and equipment.
“It hasn’t been easy, it’s been tough, the training, but because we have good equipment and coaching, everything has been fine,” he shared. “Personally, this is a very big milestone for me because I came from injury, so I had to prove to myself that I got this. Winning these medals is very big for me,” he added.
The young weightlifter’s dedication and determination have paid off, and his success serves as an inspiration to aspiring athletes in Ghana. With his impressive performance at the championship, Amo Boateng has solidified his place as a rising star in the world of weightlifting.
