Edoardo Bove Reunites with Fiorentina Teammates After Cardiac Arrest
22-year-old midfielder Edoardo Bove, who suffered a cardiac arrest on the pitch earlier this month, was welcomed back by his Fiorentina teammates on Saturday after being discharged from the hospital.
The Roma loanee received a warm reception from his colleagues at Viola Park as they prepared for their Serie A match against Bologna on Sunday. Despite not participating in the training session, Bove donned his training kit and shared smiles and words of encouragement with the team.
Following his collapse during the match against Inter Milan on December 1, Bove had been under the care of Careggi Hospital in Florence. He underwent surgery to have a defibrillator implanted, a procedure that aims to prevent future cardiac issues but raises concerns about his future in football.
Due to the risks involved in contact sports for athletes with defibrillators, Bove’s future in professional sports is uncertain. Further medical tests will determine if the device can be removed or modified to allow him to continue playing.
This situation is reminiscent of Christian Eriksen’s case, who had to leave Inter Milan after his cardiac arrest in 2021. Eriksen now plays for Manchester United and Denmark but is unable to compete in Italian football due to his implanted defibrillator.
While Edoardo Bove’s future in Italian football hangs in the balance, his presence at the team meeting on Saturday marked a significant milestone in his recovery and served as a source of motivation for the Fiorentina squad.
