ECOWAS Supports Benin in Preparation for 2026 General Elections
The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Resident Representative in Benin, Ambassador Amadou Diongue, recently visited Mr. Sacca Lafia, President of the Autonomous National Electoral Commission (CENA) of the Republic of Benin.
The meeting, which took place at CENA headquarters in Cotonou, focused on discussions regarding the upcoming 2026 general elections in Benin. Both officials exchanged New Year greetings and engaged in constructive dialogue to ensure a free, fair, and transparent electoral process.
Ambassador Diongue reaffirmed ECOWAS’s commitment to supporting Benin in its election preparations, emphasizing the organization’s dedication to accompanying Benin in conducting smooth elections within the legal framework. This commitment highlights ECOWAS’s mission to bolster democratic institutions and processes across its member states.
The discussions between Ambassador Diongue and President Lafia extended to addressing specific challenges and opportunities related to electoral preparations.
