The Electoral Commission of Ghana has announced a rerun of elections at the Abokobi Women’s Development Centre 2 polling station in the Dome Kwabenya constituency. Dr. Serebour Quaicoe, the Director of Training at the Electoral Commission, has assured that the rerun will take place before the newly elected Members of Parliament are inaugurated.
The decision for the rerun was made after disparities were found in the results from three unresolved polling stations following the completion of the 367 polling station collation procedure. Dr. Quaicoe explained that two of the results from the remaining three polling stations were valid, while one was rejected due to the use of incorrect training sheets during the polling process.
The rejected result involved 669 voters, which could potentially change the outcome of the election if given to the trailing candidate. As a result, the EC has decided to hold a rerun at the Abokobi Women’s Development Centre 2 polling station. The commission will report the situation to the Electoral Commission, which will determine the date for the rerun.
The re-collation process for the Dome Kwabenya constituency has been marred by confusion and disagreements between political parties. Both the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have raised concerns about the integrity of the results.
Earlier, the EC had suspended the re-collation of results in both the Dome Kwabenya and Ablekuma North constituencies on December 21, citing the lack of pink sheets from political parties for some polling stations. The rerun at the Abokobi Women’s Development Centre 2 polling station is aimed at ensuring the accuracy and fairness of the election results before the newly elected Members of Parliament are inaugurated.
