The National Security Ministry has implemented a ban on all drone activities during the upcoming Presidential inauguration scheduled for Tuesday, January 7, 2025. The ban, which applies to both recreational and commercial drone use, will be enforced in and around the Black Star Square where the event will take place.
The decision was communicated through a press release dated January 2nd, signed by Acting Chief Director Lily Fati Soale. The ministry emphasized that the ban is crucial for ensuring the safety and security of dignitaries and members of the public who will be in attendance at the ceremony. They urged all drone operators to adhere to the directive and respect all security measures put in place.
The Presidential inauguration will see thousands of Ghanaians gather at the Black Star Square to witness the swearing-in of President-elect John Dramani Mahama and Vice President-elect Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang. Mahama emerged as the winner of the presidential election held on December 9, 2024, securing 56.55% of the votes cast.
Prior to the main inauguration ceremony, Members of Parliament-elect for various constituencies and the Speaker-elect will take their oaths at 11:00 PM and midnight on January 6th, respectively. In a related development, President Akufo-Addo delivered his final State of the Nation Address to Parliament on January 3rd, 2025.
During his address, President Akufo-Addo refuted claims that Ghana’s economy is in distress, labeling such assertions as mere propaganda. He emphasized that his administration is leaving behind a robust and stable economy, supported by key indicators such as gross international reserves amounting to nearly 8 billion US dollars.
The National Security Ministry’s ban on drone operations underscores the importance of maintaining a secure environment during the Presidential inauguration. With preparations underway for the historic event, all stakeholders are called upon to cooperate and ensure a smooth and successful ceremony.
