A 30-year-old driver, Ebenezer Nii Adjei, has been sentenced to 12 months imprisonment by an Accra Circuit Court for stealing GH¢100,000 from his employer. Adjei, who pleaded guilty, admitted to using the stolen funds to purchase a car, a motorbike, and to rent and furnish an apartment. The judge, Mrs. Susan Eduful, was informed that both the vehicle and motorbike had been recovered.

The court heard that the complainant, Alidu Arimiyaw, an event organiser from Nungua, had employed Adjei for some time. On May 21, 2025, while on duty together, Arimiyaw left a bag containing GH¢100,000 in the car to transact with a mobile money vendor. He had informed a decorator that the funds were meant for an upcoming event. Upon seeing his employer returning to the car, Adjei drove off with the money and later abandoned the vehicle before fleeing the scene.

Following a police report, Adjei was apprehended, and during investigations, he confessed to the theft. The prosecution confirmed that the recovered car and motorbike would be presented as exhibits in the case against him.

In conclusion, the sentencing of Ebenezer Nii Adjei serves as a reminder of the consequences of committing theft and betraying the trust of an employer. It is essential for employees to uphold honesty and integrity in their dealings to avoid legal repercussions and damage to their reputation.
