President John Mahama has taken a significant step towards revitalizing the Ghanaian economy by setting up a seven-member committee to oversee the organisation of the National Economic Dialogue (NED) within a timeframe of four weeks. The planning committee, led by Dr Ishmael Yamson, is in line with the President’s promise to address economic challenges in the country.

The committee is composed of individuals with diverse expertise, including Dr K.Y. Amoako, Professor John Gatsi, Mohammed Samara, Nelly Mireku, Anthony Sarpong, and Ernest De-Graft Egyir. Each member brings valuable insights and knowledge to the table, ensuring a comprehensive approach to the dialogue.

The committee’s responsibilities are crucial in ensuring the success of the NED. These include setting the agenda, coordinating speakers and panellists, managing logistics, facilitating sessions, documenting proceedings, and implementing a communication strategy. By focusing on these key areas, the committee aims to create a platform for meaningful discussions and consensus-building on the country’s economic challenges.

In a statement released by Acting Spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the government outlined its vision for the National Economic Dialogue. The objectives include communicating the true state of Ghana’s economy, developing a homegrown fiscal consolidation programme, and highlighting key structural reforms and policy priorities. These goals aim to provide a roadmap for economic transformation and sustainable growth in the country.

Overall, the National Economic Dialogue represents a crucial opportunity for stakeholders to come together, exchange ideas, and chart a path towards a more resilient and prosperous economy. With the committee’s expertise and dedication, the dialogue is set to make a significant impact on Ghana’s economic future.
