Violent Demonstrations Near Belgian Embassy in Congo
Recent violent demonstrations have erupted near several embassies, including the Belgian embassy in Congo. During the protests, a gate was set on fire, but authorities were able to quickly extinguish the flames. Fortunately, there was no immediate threat to embassy staff or visitors.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is closely monitoring the situation and maintaining regular communication with the Belgian embassy in Kinshasa and local authorities in Congo.
Following the incident, the Belgian embassy in Kinshasa has requested heightened security measures from Congolese authorities, which have been positively acknowledged. Additionally, the Congolese authorities have been reminded of their responsibility to safeguard diplomatic premises and personnel.
Ensuring the safety of embassy staff and the Belgian community remains a top priority. The embassy in Kinshasa is advising Belgians in the region to stay indoors and stay informed about the ongoing events. Fortunately, the situation appears to be calming down.
