Dani Alves Acquitted of Sexual Assault Charges After Winning Appeal
After initially being found guilty of sexually assaulting a 23-year-old woman during a nightclub party in December 2022, Dani Alves, the Brazilian footballer, was sentenced to four and a half years in prison. However, a recent development has seen Alves emerge victorious in his appeal against the conviction.
Reports from the Spanish press this morning revealed that the Court of Appeal has acquitted Alves, overturning the previous verdict. Both the public prosecutor, who aimed to increase the sentence to nine years, and the private prosecutor, who sought a 12-year sentence, had their appeals dismissed by the court. The ruling highlighted “a series of gaps, inaccuracies, inconsistencies, and contradictions regarding the facts, the legal assessment, and its consequences.”
