Police have officially identified the suspect wanted in connection with the tragic hit-and-run incident that resulted in the death of 36-year-old Amanda Servedio in Queens last month. The suspect, Bekim Fiseku, 53, is now wanted for homicide following the fatal incident in Astoria.
The heartbreaking incident occurred on the evening of October 22nd when Servedio, a beloved member of the community, was struck by a speeding Dodge Ram at the intersection of 34th Avenue and 37th Street, just two blocks away from her home. The surveillance footage captured the moment when the truck collided with the passing cyclist, hurling her from her bike and into a parked BMW. Servedio was rushed to Elmhurst Hospital, where she tragically succumbed to her injuries.
The police were initially responding to a burglary report in Dutch Kills when they spotted the suspicious pickup truck with a covered rear license plate. Believing the occupants of the vehicle to be connected to the burglary, the officers attempted to initiate a stop, but the driver of the truck refused to comply and fled the scene at high speed.
Despite the police pursuit, the driver continued to evade authorities, leading to the fatal crash that claimed Servedio’s life. The truck was later found abandoned near Newtown Road and 47th Street, leaving investigators to piece together the events that led to the devastating outcome.
In the aftermath of the tragedy, Servedio’s mother was seen grieving outside their apartment building, surrounded by supportive friends and neighbors. A native of Arkansas, Servedio had been living independently in Astoria for some time, where she was known for her passion for cycling. Her bike rides, meticulously tracked on the Strava app, showcased her dedication to the sport, with recorded treks spanning up to 26 miles.
Described as a “real cyclist” by her neighbors, Servedio regularly participated in organized rides and was a familiar sight in the community with her bike in tow. Her sudden and untimely death has left a void in the neighborhood, as friends and neighbors mourn the loss of a vibrant and active member of their community.
As authorities continue their search for Bekim Fiseku, the suspect in the hit-and-run incident, the community remains united in honoring the memory of Amanda Servedio and seeking justice for her tragic passing. May her spirit and love for cycling forever be remembered in the hearts of those who knew her.
