Veteran Nollywood Actor and Academic, Dr. Columbus Irosanga, Remembered
It is with heavy hearts that we mourn the passing of veteran Nollywood actor and respected academic, Dr. Columbus Irosanga. The news of his passing was shared by his colleague, Hilda Dokubo, on Thursday via her Instagram page.
Hilda Dokubo expressed her sorrow, stating, “There can’t be a shortage of Angels in heaven that the few here are called home like this na! This one is heavy on Uniport, Rivers State, Nollywood.” She further added, “Our uncle Coli @colu_mbusirisoanga has gone to be with the Lord. Ikoli eh dein na mu.”
Dr. Irosanga, a native of Okrika in Rivers State, was known for his exceptional performances, especially his portrayal of powerful characters such as chief priests. One of his most memorable roles was as “Igbudu” in the 2001 Nollywood hit film “Issakaba”, a performance that solidified his place in the history of Nigerian cinema.
Throughout his decades-long career in Nollywood, Dr. Irosanga captivated audiences with his talent and presence on screen. His portrayals of influential roles earned him recognition as one of the most respected actors of his time.
Dr. Irosanga appeared in several notable films, including “Otondo”, “Ogidi”, “Amanyanabo: the Eagle King”, and “Dons in Abuja”, among others. His remarkable performances garnered him awards such as Best Actor in a Supporting Role at the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) and Most Promising Actor in Nigeria at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA).
Aside from his acting career, Dr. Irosanga was a dedicated educator. He served as a senior lecturer in the Department of Theatre Arts at the University of Port Harcourt, where he mentored and inspired young talents in the arts.

His academic pursuits were intertwined with his acting career, as he played a pivotal role in shaping the future of Nigerian theatre and cinema. With a doctorate in Theatre Arts, Dr. Irosanga left a lasting legacy in both the entertainment and academic spheres.
Dr. Columbus Irosanga, a devoted family man, leaves behind his wife and children. Despite his fame, his family remained a cornerstone in his personal and professional life.
