Veteran Nollywood Actor and Academic, Dr. Columbus Irosanga, Remembered

It is with heavy hearts that we mourn the passing of veteran Nollywood actor and respected academic, Dr. Columbus Irosanga. The news of his passing was shared by his colleague, Hilda Dokubo, on Thursday via her Instagram page.

Dr. Irosanga, a native of Okrika in Rivers State, was known for his exceptional performances, especially his portrayal of powerful characters such as chief priests. One of his most memorable roles was as “Igbudu” in the 2001 Nollywood hit film “Issakaba”, a performance that solidified his place in the history of Nigerian cinema.

Throughout his decades-long career in Nollywood, Dr. Irosanga captivated audiences with his talent and presence on screen. His portrayals of influential roles earned him recognition as one of the most respected actors of his time.

Dr. Irosanga appeared in several notable films, including “Otondo”, “Ogidi”, “Amanyanabo: the Eagle King”, and “Dons in Abuja”, among others. His remarkable performances garnered him awards such as Best Actor in a Supporting Role at the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) and Most Promising Actor in Nigeria at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA).

Aside from his acting career, Dr. Irosanga was a dedicated educator. He served as a senior lecturer in the Department of Theatre Arts at the University of Port Harcourt, where he mentored and inspired young talents in the arts.
