The Manhyia Palace was filled with a sense of solemnity on Thursday, August 21, as the Ashanti Kingdom marked the one-week celebration of the late Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III.

During the traditional rituals at the palace courtyard, mourners gathered to pay their respects to the revered queen mother, who was the daughter of the 13th Asantehemaa, Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem III.

Notable figures such as Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang and Chief of Staff Julius Debrah were present to sign the book of condolence, alongside former Presidents Nana Akufo-Addo and John Agyekum Kufuor, as well as the New Patriotic Party’s 2024 Vice Presidential Candidate, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh.

The National Democratic Congress also showed their respects with a delegation led by National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia and General Secretary Fifi Fiavi Kwetey.

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, announced that the final funeral rites for Nana Konadu Yiadom III will take place from Sunday, September 14 to Thursday, September 18, 2025, at the Manhyia Palace. In preparation for the ceremonies, a ban on public gatherings, including funerals, outdoor events, and social activities, has been declared within Kumasi and surrounding areas during the five-day period.

Nana Konadu Yiadom III, who passed away earlier this month, held the title of the longest-serving Asantehemaa in modern history, known for her wisdom, grace, and significant contributions to the Asante Kingdom.

Photojournalist Sammy Moore from Myjoyonline captured moments from the one-week observance at the Manhyia Palace, showcasing the respect and honour bestowed upon the late queen mother.
