China School Teacher Slaps Student Nine Times For Calling Him By Name, Suspended

A school teacher in China has been suspended from his position after slapping a student in the face nine times for calling out his name. The incident occurred on March 14 at a school in Shandong province, as reported by the South China Morning Post (SCMP). The student and his classmates were taking a break in a playground during a physical education class when the boy spotted his mathematics teacher, surnamed Wu, walking nearby and called out his name.

Wu became upset, believing that the boy had shown disrespect to him by calling out his name. He approached the group of students, located the boy who had called his name, and proceeded to slap him in the face multiple times. Despite the student apologizing twice and a classmate attempting to intervene, Wu continued to strike the boy a total of nine times.

The student’s parents shared that their son’s face became swollen, he experienced tinnitus, and suffered from a continuous headache following the incident. The mother expressed her concern on social media, questioning why an adult would resort to violence against her child. The family sought medical attention for the boy’s head and face injuries and reported the incident to both the police and school authorities, demanding Wu’s dismissal.

In response to the situation, the school took action by suspending Wu from his teaching position and offering 5,000 yuan in compensation to the boy’s family. However, the parents declined the monetary offer. The local education authority also launched an investigation into the matter, pledging to address the issue seriously and in accordance with the law and regulations.

During a confrontation with the student’s mother, Wu defended his actions by stating that the boy had called his name loudly and disrespectfully, prompting him to discipline the student for his behavior. Despite Wu’s explanation, the school and education authorities are committed to addressing the incident and ensuring appropriate consequences are implemented.

This unfortunate incident serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining professionalism and respect in educational settings to ensure the well-being and safety of students. It highlights the need for effective disciplinary measures and support systems to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
