Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca has reiterated his support for winger Mykhailo Mudryk despite the player facing an anti-doping charge from the Football Association (FA). Maresca expressed his trust in all Chelsea players, including Mudryk, during a press conference in Philadelphia ahead of the Club World Cup clash with Flamengo.

Mudryk has been suspended since December following an adverse finding in a routine urine test, which could potentially lead to a four-year ban. Despite his absence from the squad and lack of communication with the coach since the UEFA Conference League final, Maresca remains optimistic about the player’s future.

The Ukrainian winger, signed from Shakhtar Donetsk for a hefty fee in January 2023, has struggled with consistency at Chelsea, scoring only 10 goals in 73 appearances. Maresca acknowledged the need to strengthen the wide attacking position, hinting at potential new signings to bolster the squad for the upcoming Premier League season.

In preparation for the challenging match against Flamengo in hot and humid conditions, Maresca plans to rotate his squad to cope with the weather. Players like Enzo Fernandez, Malo Gusto, and recent acquisition Liam Delap are expected to compete for starting roles in the lineup.

Facing a formidable Flamengo side led by former Chelsea player Filipe Luis, Maresca anticipates a tough battle on the field. The Brazilian team currently sits atop the league standings and has been in impressive form, losing only once in their last 16 matches. Maresca emphasized the need for Chelsea to be at their best to secure a victory against their skilled opponents.

Filipe Luis, reflecting on his time at Chelsea where he won the Premier League and League Cup, shared fond memories of his experience with the club. Despite limited playing time due to the form of teammate Azpilicueta, he cherished the friendships and successes he achieved during his time at Chelsea.

As Chelsea gears up to face Flamengo in a crucial Club World Cup encounter, Maresca and his team are prepared to give their all in pursuit of victory. The match promises to be a thrilling showdown between two talented sides vying for supremacy on the global stage.
