Champions League: Mbappe, Rodrygo, and Vinicius score as Real Madrid dismantle Salzburg

Real Madrid put on a masterclass performance in the Champions League as they cruised to a 5-1 victory over RB Salzburg at the iconic Santiago Bernabéu stadium, propelling them to 16th place in the standings.

The match kicked off with Madrid immediately asserting their dominance on the field. Rodrygo was the star of the show in the first half, scoring two fantastic goals to give the home team a comfortable 2-0 lead going into halftime.

The second half started with a bang as Kylian Mbappé added a third goal for Madrid just three minutes in. Pressuring Salzburg’s goalkeeper, Mbappé took advantage of a defensive error and calmly slotted the ball into the back of the net.

Vinícius Júnior further extended Madrid’s lead in the 55th minute with a brilliant goal. Luka Modrić played a pinpoint pass to Vinícius, who effortlessly glided past a defender before unleashing a powerful strike to make it 4-0.

Madrid continued to dominate possession and control the pace of the game. In a swift counterattack following a Salzburg corner, Federico Valverde set up Vinícius for his second goal of the night, sealing the victory for the Spanish giants.

Despite their overwhelming performance, Madrid’s quest for a clean sheet was denied as Salzburg managed to score a consolation goal through Mads Bidstrup’s stunning volley in the 85th minute.

Overall, Madrid’s performance exceeded expectations as they outclassed Salzburg both offensively and defensively throughout the match.

Looking ahead, Real Madrid will be looking to build on this emphatic victory as they gear up to face Brest in their next Champions League fixture away from home next Wednesday.

In their seventh meeting with the reigning champions in the Champions League, Salzburg once again fell short, marking their seventh consecutive defeat against Madrid. They are now the first team to face the holders seven times or more and lose on every occasion, with the aggregate scoreline now standing at 24-7 in favor of the Spanish giants.
