CcHub and Mastercard Foundation Launch Third EdTech Fellowship Cohort
Co-Creation Hub (CcHub) and the Mastercard Foundation have joined forces to introduce the third cohort of the EdTech Fellowship program, with the goal of promoting equal access to quality education in Africa through innovative technological solutions. This latest cohort consists of 12 startups, with half of them being led by women, showcasing a dedication to diversity and inclusivity within Africa’s tech industry.
The selected startups offer a variety of tools, ranging from AI-driven learning platforms to offline virtual science labs, all designed to bridge the educational gap, particularly in underserved rural areas. Each startup will receive funding of up to $100,000 without giving up equity, as well as support for product development, mentorship, and access to investor networks.
This program addresses the systemic challenges present in education systems across sub-Saharan Africa, where access to education remains uneven and infrastructure is lacking. With only 37% of the African population using the internet in 2023, as reported by the International Telecommunication Union, scalable offline solutions are crucial in expanding educational access.
The growing youth population in Africa is driving an increased demand for education. CcHub and the Mastercard Foundation are committed to meeting this demand by supporting startups that can provide localized, low-connectivity solutions. Moreover, the initiative emphasizes the importance of rigorously measuring impact to attract further investment and ensure long-term sustainability.
Integrating these tools into national education strategies could speed up their adoption and catalyze systemic transformation within the continent’s learning ecosystems.
