The fashion scene at the 2025 budget speech in Parliament was a mixed bag of hits and misses. As MPs gathered to hear about financial cuts, their fashion choices also came under scrutiny. While some managed to impress with their sartorial choices, others fell short with uninspired outfits.

Minister of Finance Enoch Godongwana stole the show with his impeccable sense of style. Dressed in a navy suit, white shirt, and a vibrant tie, he exuded power and sophistication. What truly set him apart was his Chicago wool fedora, adding a touch of flair to his ensemble.

Deputy Minister of Defence and Military Veterans Bantu Holomisa demonstrated the importance of proper tailoring. His slate-grey suit, paired with a blue shirt and patterned tie, showcased the impact of a well-fitted outfit.

National Assembly Speaker Thoko Didiza injected a pop of color into the sea of dark suits with her bright shirt, proving that a simple styling trick can make a big difference.

President Cyril Ramaphosa stuck to his classic navy suit look, while opposition leader Mmusi Maimane and Minister of Sports, Arts, and Culture Gayton McKenzie opted for variations of grey and maroon ensembles, respectively.

However, some MPs seemed stuck in a fashion rut. Deputy President Paul Mashatile and Minister of Agriculture John Steenhuisen opted for safe, repetitive outfit choices, showing a lack of creativity.

Unfortunately, not everyone got it right. Gwede Mantashe’s attempt at blending politics with style fell flat, with his mismatched tie detracting from his overall look.

The EFF and MK party members stuck to their signature uniforms, making a political statement rather than a fashion statement.

Overall, the 2025 budget speech fashion lacked excitement and innovation. While there were a few standout looks, the majority of MPs played it safe with predictable outfits. Hopefully, in the future, we’ll see more attention to detail and individuality on the Parliament fashion scene.
