The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) have strongly criticized the latest version of the 2025 Budget, labeling it as an “austerity budget” that fails to provide any significant relief to the poor and working-class citizens of South Africa.

EFF leader Julius Malema lambasted the ANC for what he sees as a missed opportunity to address the country’s economic inequalities. He stated that the budget does not offer any real solutions to the challenges faced by millions of South Africans, including high unemployment rates, inadequate public services, and stagnant wages.

In a scathing statement, the EFF accused the government of disregarding proposals from opposition parties and civil society during the budget adjustment process. They described the budget as out of touch with the harsh realities faced by many South Africans and criticized the ANC for perpetuating failed economic policies.

The EFF also alleged that the decision to drop the proposed VAT increase was not a result of stakeholder consultation but rather a response to legal action taken by the Democratic Alliance (DA). They called for an increase in corporate and land taxes as part of a progressive tax reform agenda, along with strengthening the South African Revenue Service to combat tax avoidance.

On the other hand, the DA cautiously welcomed the revised budget, calling it a “turning of the tide” towards greater fiscal responsibility. The party claimed a victory in the removal of the proposed VAT hike and praised the government for refraining from providing new bailouts to struggling state-owned enterprises.

The Freedom Front Plus also expressed support for the budget, describing it as “progressive” and suitable given the current fiscal constraints. However, ActionSA voiced disappointment over the lack of additional funding for the National Prosecuting Authority and criticized the proposed inflation-linked increases to the levy on petrol and diesel.

The ANC defended the revised budget as a balanced and responsible response to the complex economic environment. Party spokesperson Mahlengi Bhengu highlighted the adjustments made between the initial budget and the revised version as a reflection of the government’s commitment to fiscal sustainability and public consultation.

Overall, the revised budget includes shifts in spending priorities but remains aligned with the treasury’s medium-term fiscal framework, which prioritizes debt stabilization and constrained expenditure growth. Despite the mixed reactions from political parties, the government maintains that the budget is a necessary step towards addressing South Africa’s economic challenges. The rise of sustainable fashion: How consumers are driving the change

Sustainable fashion has been gaining momentum in recent years as consumers become more conscious of the environmental impact of their clothing choices. From fast fashion to ethical and eco-friendly brands, there is a growing demand for sustainable options in the industry. So, what exactly is driving this shift towards sustainable fashion?

One of the key factors driving the rise of sustainable fashion is consumer awareness. With the rise of social media and the internet, consumers have more access to information about the environmental and social impact of the fashion industry. From sweatshop labor to pollution from textile production, consumers are becoming increasingly aware of the negative consequences of their fashion choices.

As a result, many consumers are seeking out brands that prioritize sustainability and ethical practices. This has led to a surge in demand for eco-friendly and ethical fashion options, from organic cotton and recycled materials to fair trade and transparent supply chains. Brands that can demonstrate their commitment to sustainability are attracting a loyal customer base who are willing to pay a premium for ethically produced clothing.

Another driving factor behind the rise of sustainable fashion is the growing influence of celebrities and influencers. As public figures with large social media followings, celebrities have the power to shape trends and influence consumer behavior. Many celebrities have used their platform to promote sustainable fashion brands and advocate for more environmentally friendly practices in the industry.

In addition, government regulations and initiatives are also playing a role in driving the shift towards sustainable fashion. With increasing concerns about climate change and environmental degradation, governments around the world are implementing policies to promote sustainable practices in the fashion industry. From bans on single-use plastics to incentives for sustainable production methods, these regulations are pushing brands to adopt more eco-friendly practices.

Overall, the rise of sustainable fashion is a result of a combination of factors, from consumer awareness and celebrity influence to government regulations and industry initiatives. As consumers continue to demand more sustainable options, the fashion industry is being forced to adapt and prioritize ethical and environmentally friendly practices. With the growing popularity of sustainable fashion, it is clear that the future of the industry lies in sustainability and conscious consumerism.
