Bafana Bafana Coach Hugo Broos Unveils Final Squad for International Friendly Matches
South Africa’s national team coach, Hugo Broos, has announced the final squad for the upcoming International Friendly matches against Tanzania and Mozambique. The matches are set to take place in June 2025, with the team facing Tanzania on June 6 at Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane, Limpopo, followed by a match against Mozambique on June 10.
Broos expressed his satisfaction with the progress of South African football in recent years, highlighting the achievements of various national teams. The U15 Girls and Boys teams are both COSAFA champions, with the girls winning bronze at the CAF African Schools Football Championship in Ghana. Additionally, the U17 Men’s National Team, Amajimbos, has secured a spot in the FIFA U17 World Cup in Qatar, while the U20 Men’s National Team, Amajita, claimed the African title and qualified for the Under-20 FIFA World Cup in Chile later this year.
Meanwhile, Banyana Banyana is currently competing in the #ThreeNations series as part of their preparations for the Women’s AFCON in Morocco. On the men’s side, Bafana Bafana has qualified for the Africa Cup of Nations and is leading the qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The team will also participate in the 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN) scheduled to take place in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda in August.
Broos emphasized the importance of sustained development and continuity in South African football, urging the Football Federation to maintain the current momentum. He highlighted the need for long-term planning and investment to ensure that the success seen across various national teams is sustained in the years to come.
As South African football enjoys a period of success and achievement on the international stage, Broos believes that strategic planning and consistent development programs will be key in maintaining this upward trajectory for the future.
