The British Council is thrilled to announce the twelfth edition of the Study UK Alumni Awards, which aim to celebrate the remarkable achievements of international UK alumni across the globe. These prestigious awards recognize individuals who have utilized their UK education to make significant contributions to their communities, industries, and countries.

This year, the award categories include Business and Innovation, Culture, Creativity and Sport, Science and Sustainability, and Social Action. The application process opens on 1st September 2025 and closes on 16th October 2025. Eligible candidates will be considered for both national Alumni Awards in their respective countries and the global Alumni Awards.

Global award winners will be announced in 2026 and will be celebrated through a digital campaign that showcases their inspiring stories and accomplishments. As part of their prize, global winners will have the opportunity to visit the UK, reconnect with their alma maters, interact with current GREAT scholars, and engage with other global awardees. This visit not only enhances their international profiles but also facilitates valuable connections within the academic community.

In addition to the global awards, some countries will host national ceremonies to honor their finalists. The national award winners will be announced between December 2025 and May 2026, with ceremonies typically hosted by the British Council, the British High Commission, or the British Ambassador. These events attract VIP guests and receive extensive press coverage, highlighting the achievements of the finalists.

In Ghana, 12 national finalists were celebrated at the February 2025 awards ceremony in Accra. Two Ghanaian alumni, Adaku Ufere from the University of Aberdeen and King A. Wellington from the University of Birmingham, were selected as global finalists, representing their country on the international stage. The winners received professional development grants to support their growth and gained global recognition through the British Council’s digital platforms and social media channels.

Reflecting on their achievements, Adaku Ufere stated, “Being recognized as the Science and Sustainability Award winner in Ghana 2025 has been a powerful moment in my journey. The visibility through the British Council’s platforms has been truly invaluable.” King A. Wellington added, “Winning the Business and Innovation Award in Ghana 2025 was a defining moment. It validated the work I have been doing and provided a platform to showcase Ghanaian innovation globally.”
