Nigeria Joins BRICS as a Partner Country
Nigeria has officially become a partner country of the BRICS bloc, further expanding the group of emerging economies. The BRICS bloc, originally established in 2009 by Brazil, Russia, India, and China as an alternative to the G7 forum, welcomed South Africa in 2010. In recent years, the organization has garnered global attention, leading to the inclusion of countries like Iran, Egypt, Ethiopia, and the United Arab Emirates in 2024. Nigeria, Africa’s largest economy, has expressed interest in joining BRICS and is now the ninth partner country, alongside nations such as Belarus, Bolivia, and Malaysia.
Nigeria’s inclusion in BRICS highlights its shared interests with the member nations and underscores its economic significance in Africa.
