Revolutionizing the Engineering Industry with ERP Migration

In the fast-paced world of engineering, staying ahead of the curve is crucial. This was the challenge faced by Controlgear Instramac (CGI), a leading provider of turnkey electrical, control, and instrumentation solutions. To elevate their operations to the next level, CGI embarked on a journey to migrate their end-of-life Great Plains ERP system to the cutting-edge Microsoft Business Central platform. This transition was not just about upgrading software but about revolutionizing the way CGI conducted business.

Key Benefits of ERP Migration:

  • Seamless migration over a single weekend with minimal disruption to business operations
  • Clean data transfer and enhanced collaboration leading to improved system performance and user adoption
  • Modern interface providing instant insights and enhanced user experience
  • Custom dashboards for real-time visibility into stock levels and streamlined sales processes

Braintree, a trusted partner of CGI, played a pivotal role in facilitating this transformation. By addressing customization, cost, and optimization challenges, Braintree enabled CGI to embrace the full potential of next-generation ERP capabilities.

Director of CGI, Deon Nieuwoudt, shared the company’s vision of creating an online store for customers to access products and services anytime, anywhere. With Braintree’s expertise and Microsoft 365 licenses, CGI was able to streamline operations, enhance collaboration, and pave the way for a comprehensive digital transformation.

Driving Efficiency Through Customization

The transition to Business Central involved reimagining legacy processes and automating workflows that had been in place since CGI’s inception. Braintree worked closely with CGI to tailor the system to their specific needs, optimizing layouts for reporting, invoicing, and order management.

Today, CGI benefits from intuitive dashboards that offer real-time insights and empower users to make informed decisions. The collaboration between CGI and Braintree continues as they explore further customizations to enhance warehousing, delivery, and information flows.

Smooth Migration, Immediate Value

The migration process, spanning six months, culminated in a seamless transition over a weekend. By meticulously mapping data and configurations, CGI was able to resume operations swiftly on Business Central without missing a beat. Director Nieuwoudt praised Braintree’s support and problem-solving approach, emphasizing the successful outcome of the migration.

Since going live in November 2024, CGI has witnessed tangible benefits in workflow optimization, data accessibility, and system responsiveness. The user-friendly interface of Business Central has garnered praise from employees, who appreciate the enhanced functionality and ease of use.

Empowering Success Through Collaboration

The synergy between CGI and Braintree exemplifies the power of collaboration in driving digital transformation. By leveraging the expertise of both teams, CGI has unlocked new opportunities for growth, efficiency, and customer satisfaction.

As Account Manager at Braintree, Courtney Hounsell, aptly summarizes, “Customer involvement is key to the success of any migration project.” With CGI’s proactive engagement and Braintree’s technical prowess, the ERP migration has not only met but exceeded expectations, setting a new standard for innovation in the engineering industry.
