On Tuesday morning, employees from Boulder’s Transportation and Mobility Department were hard at work removing unofficial and explicit signs that had popped up around the city. These signs, which mimicked speed-limit signs, were found at various locations including 28th Street near Arapahoe Avenue, Table Mesa Drive and South Broadway, 28th Street and Jay Road, 28th Street and Palo Parkway, and 28th Street and the Diagonal Highway.
The messages on these signs were quite explicit, with some urging drivers to slow down and avoid distractions. Phrases such as “Get off your damn phone,” “Slow down (expletive),” “Put the phone down (expletive),” “Don’t kill any kids today,” and “Slow the (expletive) down” were displayed, according to Boulder police spokeswoman Dionne Waugh.
The Boulder Police Department is treating the posting of these signs as criminal tampering and is actively investigating the matter. They are asking anyone with information to contact police dispatch at 303-441-3333, referencing case No. 24-12182.
