Body Found in Northern Colorado Lake Believed to be Missing Larimer County Resident
A body discovered Sunday morning in a lake in northern Colorado is believed to be that of a missing person from Larimer County, according to the sheriff’s office.
Watson Lake was temporarily closed on Sunday as crews worked to recover the body. The Larimer County Coroner’s Office has not publicly identified the individual, as stated in a news release from the sheriff’s office. The lake has since reopened to the public.
The cause of death of the victim is still under investigation, according to officials.
Although the body has not been officially identified, authorities in Larimer County believe it may be connected to the case of missing Fort Collins resident Larry Baker, said agency spokesperson Ali Adams.
Baker, an 80-year-old who enjoyed fishing, went missing after leaving his Fort Collins residence on June 16. His vehicle was located at Watson Lake State Wildlife Area, near Bellvue, prompting an extensive search effort by authorities.
Reported missing on Tuesday after failing to return home, Baker’s disappearance led to a search involving over 60 individuals, including tracking dogs, drones, ground crews, and scuba divers. Despite multiple days of searching, he was not located.
Officials have stated that there is currently no evidence of foul play in Baker’s case.
As of Sunday evening, the Larimer County Coroner’s Office has not provided any further information regarding the discovered body.
This is an ongoing investigation and updates may follow.
