Body Found in Boulder Canyon Matches Description of Missing CU Boulder Student

A body matching the description of a missing University of Colorado Boulder student was discovered on Saturday morning in Boulder Canyon, as confirmed by the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office. The search for 18-year-old Megan Trussell, who was last seen leaving her campus dorm on February 9, intensified with the involvement of local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies.

While Boulder County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Vinnie Montez and University of Colorado Boulder Police Department spokesperson Nicole Mueksch could not definitively confirm the identity of the body as Trussell’s, it will be positively identified by the Boulder County Coroner’s Office. The recovery of the body required a technical evacuation, including rappelling, by first responders, as stated in the press release.

The body was discovered by Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks rangers after several days of extensive search efforts, including the deployment of drones, search and rescue dogs, and a dive team in the 400 block of Boulder Canyon Drive. Trussell was last seen wearing a blue jacket, dark-colored yoga-style pants, and white platform sneakers when she left Hallett Hall at 9 p.m. on February 9, according to CU police department spokeswoman Christine Mahoney.

Police, along with local and state law enforcement agencies, had been actively involved in locating Trussell, with a visible presence of CU Boulder police vehicles, Boulder Emergency Squad dive team members, and other search and rescue personnel in the vicinity of the 400 block of Boulder Canyon Drive. The community has been deeply saddened by the news, and efforts to support Trussell’s family and friends are underway.
