Ansu Fati, the talented winger, has made a significant move to French side Monaco on a season-long loan from Barcelona, with the option for the Ligue 1 club to make the deal permanent. This announcement was confirmed by Monaco on Tuesday.
At just 22 years old, the Spanish international is now Monaco’s third major signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Eric Dier and Paul Pogba. Fati will be presented alongside his new teammates at a press conference scheduled for Thursday.
The agreement between Monaco and Barcelona includes a purchase clause set at €11 million (£9.3 million), with Barcelona continuing to cover a significant portion of Fati’s wages during the loan period. However, Barcelona stands to benefit financially from any potential future sale of the player.
Born in Guinea-Bissau, Fati made a name for himself at Barcelona at the age of 16, quickly establishing himself as one of the club’s most promising young talents. In his time at Barcelona, he made 123 appearances and scored 29 goals, contributing to the team’s La Liga titles in 2023 and 2025, as well as two Copa del Rey triumphs.
Fati has also represented Spain on the international stage, earning 11 caps and scoring two goals. He was part of the squad for the 2022 World Cup and played a significant role in Spain’s victory in the 2023 Nations League.
Despite his talent, Fati’s career has been marred by injuries. Last season, he only managed 11 appearances for Barcelona without finding the back of the net. A loan spell at Brighton in the 2023-2024 season also failed to reignite his form, with only four goals in 27 appearances across all competitions.
With a fresh start in the competitive French top flight, Fati will be looking to rediscover the form that once made him one of Europe’s most exciting prospects. The move to Monaco presents a new opportunity for the young winger to showcase his skills and make a positive impact on the team.
