Barcelona Progresses to Champions League Semis Despite Dortmund Defeat
Barcelona managed to secure a spot in the Champions League semi-finals with a 5-3 aggregate victory, despite suffering a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday. The match saw Serhou Guirassy shine with a hat-trick for the German side.
After dominating the first leg with a 4-0 win at home, Barcelona faced a tough challenge in the away fixture as Dortmund fought hard to mount a comeback.
Guirassy made an early impact by scoring a Panenka penalty just 11 minutes into the match, giving Dortmund hope of a miraculous turnaround. He then doubled their lead with a well-placed header early in the second half.
As Dortmund gained momentum, Barcelona responded with Fermin Lopez putting pressure on Ramy Bensebaini, who unfortunately scored an own goal to bring Barcelona back into the game with about 30 minutes remaining.
Guirassy continued to impress by completing his hat-trick in the 76th minute, reigniting Dortmund’s hopes of a comeback. The match could have taken a different turn if Julian Brandt’s goal had not been ruled out for offside with just 11 minutes remaining.
Despite suffering their first competitive loss in 2025, Barcelona remains on course for the semi-finals, keeping their dreams of a treble alive. It has been a decade since Barcelona last lifted the Champions League trophy in Berlin.
Barcelona, a favorite for the title, will now await the winner between Inter Milan and Bayern Munich in the semi-finals as they continue their quest for European glory.
