Nigerian Comedian AY Makun’s Latest Movie ‘The Waiter’ Crosses N300 Million at the Box Office
Renowned Nigerian comedian, actor, and producer Ayo Makun has reached a significant milestone with his most recent film, The Waiter.
The action-comedy movie has surpassed the N300 million mark at the Nigerian box office, grossing an impressive N305.1 million as of January 15, 2025. This achievement places The Waiter among the top-grossing Nollywood releases in recent times.
Released on December 20, 2024, The Waiter quickly crossed the N200 million threshold within just two weeks, raking in N218.6 million by early January. The film’s box office earnings continue to soar, with an additional N26.6 million added in its fourth week of release.
This feat places The Waiter alongside other Nollywood blockbusters such as Toyin Abraham’s Alakada: Bad and Boujee and the record-breaking Everybody Loves Jenifa, which has amassed over N1.6 billion.
The Waiter follows AY Makun’s character, Akpos, a struggling individual who takes on a temporary job as a waiter at the prestigious Crystal Hotel.
The plot takes a twist during an event hosted by the Minister of Poverty Alleviation, where a program to assist the less privileged is unveiled. The film seamlessly blends humor, wit, and action, resonating with audiences and showcasing AY’s storytelling prowess.
