A tragic incident has shaken the Netherlands as a 17-year-old girl, identified only as Lisa, was stabbed to death while calling the police to report that she was being followed. The young victim’s body was found in a roadside ditch in Amsterdam, just hours after she was attacked on her way home from a night out with friends.
Lisa was riding home on an electric bike when she made the distress call to the police, reporting that someone was following her. Tragically, when her body was discovered, she had multiple stab wounds, including one to her neck.
Following the heinous crime, a 22-year-old male asylum seeker was arrested by a SWAT team at a migrant center in Amsterdam. He is the prime suspect in Lisa’s murder and has also been charged with the rape and beating of another woman in Amsterdam on August 15. Additionally, he allegedly assaulted a third woman just five days prior to Lisa’s murder, with another woman coming forward to report being chased by a man matching the suspect’s description.
Despite the horrific nature of the crime, there is no indication that Lisa was sexually abused. The suspect is set to appear in court in Amsterdam, where his case will be reviewed to determine whether he should be kept in pre-trial custody.
The tragic death of Lisa has sparked outrage and protests across the Netherlands, with hundreds gathering in Rotterdam for a “March Against Femicide.” Protesters held signs reading “Not all men, but always men” and “She had dreams, no grave needed.” Right-wing politicians have also weighed in on the issue, with Geert Wilders of the Freedom Party pledging to end all asylum claims in response to the murder.
Police are still urging any witnesses to come forward, releasing images of individuals seen on surveillance cameras around the time of the murder. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities hoping to bring justice for Lisa and her loved ones.
