The Ashanti Region of Ghana has been thrown into mourning following the tragic death of Nana Osei Bonsu, the Kyidomhene (sub-chief) of Brofoyedru in the Mampong Municipality. Reports indicate that the 48-year-old chief was brutally killed by unknown gunmen in a shocking incident that has left the community reeling.
According to Richard Nketiah, the Assembly Member for the Mprim Electoral Area, the motive behind the murder remains unclear. Preliminary reports suggest that Nana Osei Bonsu was forcibly removed from his vehicle, which bore a temporary license plate, and shot at close range in the occipital region. The gruesome discovery was made by residents near a blue Toyota Corolla on the outskirts of Mrim, close to Asante Mampong, at around 3:00 AM on Tuesday, April 1, 2025.
Upon inspection of the crime scene, it was evident that part of the road had been obstructed, and the front passenger door of the vehicle showed signs of forced entry. The lifeless body of Nana Osei Bonsu, dressed in a mauve Lacoste T-shirt and black denim shorts, was found lying face down in a pool of blood. Shockingly, no items were reported stolen from the victim, except for a missing mobile phone.
Further investigations revealed that Nana Osei Bonsu had visited his hometown on Sunday before returning to Kumasi, where he lived with his immediate family. While his extended family in Brofoyedru believed he had gone back to his wife, his spouse confirmed that he had left Kumasi for his hometown on Monday, March 31. It is suspected that he was ambushed and killed while en route to Brofoyedru.
Authorities from the Ashanti North Regional Police Command in Mampong have confirmed the incident and stated that the body has been transferred to the Mampong Government Hospital mortuary for further examination. The community is in shock and mourning the loss of a respected leader, as they await more information on the circumstances surrounding the heinous crime.
