Asante Kotoko Honors Late Fan with 2-0 Victory Over Legon Cities

Asante Kotoko paid a heartfelt tribute to their late fan, Nana Pooley, with an emphatic 2-0 victory over Legon Cities at the Baba Yara Stadium as the Ghana Premier League resumed. The win sees Kotoko reclaim the top spot in the league, level on points with Bibiani GoldStars.

Before kickoff, an emotional tribute was held in honour of Nana Pooley, with players, staff, and fans observing a minute’s silence to remember the dedicated supporter. The atmosphere was charged with emotion, as the team looked determined to honour his memory with a strong performance.

Kotoko took the lead in the 29th minute when full-back Patrick Asiedu unleashed a stunning strike into the net beyond the reach of the Legon Cities goalkeeper. The goal sparked jubilant celebrations, with players pointing to the sky in remembrance of their late fan.

The Porcupine Warriors maintained their dominance throughout the game, patiently controlling possession and pushing for a second goal. Their persistence paid off in the 87th minute when striker Kwame Opoku won a penalty after being brought down in the box. Opoku confidently stepped up and sent the goalkeeper the wrong way, securing the victory with a composed finish.

The win not only strengthens Kotoko’s title challenge but also serves as a fitting tribute to Nana Pooley, whose unwavering support for the club will always be remembered. With this performance, the team has shown resilience and unity, determined to continue their quest for glory in his honour.
