Former Arsenal Manager Arsene Wenger Gives Insight on Gunners’ Premier League Title Chances
In a recent interview, former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger shared his thoughts on the Gunners’ chances of winning the Premier League title, estimating their likelihood at a “generous” 20 percent.
Arsenal had an opportunity to close the gap on league leaders Liverpool after the Reds dropped points in recent matches. However, Mikel Arteta’s side suffered a disappointing home defeat to West Ham, hindering their pursuit of the title.
Meanwhile, Liverpool extended their lead at the top of the table with a crucial 2-0 victory over Manchester City, courtesy of goals from Mohamed Salah. This result saw the Reds increase their lead to 11 points over second-placed Arsenal, who still have a game in hand.
During halftime at the Etihad, Wenger acknowledged that Arsenal’s chances of clinching the title are diminishing. He mentioned that if Liverpool secure a win, the likelihood of them winning the title would be around 80 percent.
When asked about Arsenal’s prospects, Wenger stated, “You have to keep hope! [Arsenal have] a 20% chance. Maybe I’m being generous… But with 11 games remaining, an 11-point deficit, and one game in hand, it would be surprising.”
He further added, “If Liverpool emerge victorious today, they’ve only suffered one defeat this season, making it unlikely for them to lose four games in the last 11 matches.”
