Actress Anya Taylor-Joy and her husband found themselves in a terrifying situation when masked burglars broke into a London mansion they were staying in back in February 2023. The 28-year-old actress and her musician husband, Malcolm McRae, along with McRae’s bandmate Kane Ritchotte, were at the residence owned by another celebrity who was not present at the time, according to a report by The Sun.
The burglars attempted to enter both parties’ bedrooms after breaking a glass pane to gain access to the property. Fortunately, Taylor-Joy, McRae, and Ritchotte managed to lock themselves in a closet and the intruders left empty-handed. Although shaken by the ordeal, the trio emerged unharmed.
One of the suspects, Kirk Holdrick, 42, was later arrested and charged with the burglary. He pleaded not guilty and is currently in prison awaiting trial in September. Holdrick had previously made headlines in 2022 for dating Hannah Voyan, a former cast member of the British reality show Towie.
Another accomplice involved in the break-in is still at large. A reporting restriction on the burglary was lifted at the Wood Green crown court in North London on November 3, allowing details of the incident to be made public.
The Met Police were informed of the break-in, and CCTV footage was reviewed along with forensic checks conducted at the property. Taylor-Joy, known for her role in “The Queen’s Gambit” and more recently in “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga,” has since moved on from the frightening experience.
The incident serves as a reminder of the security risks celebrities face, even in their own homes. Despite the scare, Taylor-Joy and her husband have shown resilience in the face of danger and are grateful to have emerged from the ordeal unscathed.
