Political Marketing Expert Critiques Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh’s Campaign Strategy
Political marketing researcher Chris Atadika has identified Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, known as Napo, and his unbridled actions as a significant factor in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) loss in the 2024 elections.
While recognizing Napo’s leadership capabilities, Atadika pointed out that his behavior during the campaign detracted from his suitability for the vice-presidential position.
“Yes! You are destined to be a leader […] but your excesses you couldn’t suppress amounted to bad preparation,” Atadika expressed in a social media post. He highlighted that Napo’s contentious statements and demeanor failed to convey his “best intentions” to voters, ultimately impacting the NPP’s electoral performance.
The evaluation aligns with widespread observations that Napo’s confrontational approach alienated undecided voters. Following the election defeat, Napo has embarked on a deliberate rebranding effort, engaging in community service and adopting a more statesmanlike persona. Atadika endorsed this transformation, labeling it the “#NewNapo agenda,” and encouraged Napo to regroup for future political prospects.
The analysis emphasizes the critical need for the opposition NPP to redefine its leadership strategy in preparation for the upcoming 2028 elections. As Napo works on reshaping his public image, his ability to temper perceived impulsiveness will play a crucial role in determining his relevance in Ghana’s dynamic political environment.
