Amanda Seyfried Opens Up About Declining Role in Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy”
American actress Amanda Seyfried recently revealed her decision to turn down the role of Gamora in Marvel’s popular “Guardians of the Galaxy” franchise. In an interview on the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast, Seyfried explained that although she received an offer for the role, she ultimately decided against it.
During the podcast, Seyfried shared that she had contemplated the offer for a couple of days but ultimately chose to work on another film called “A Million Ways to Die in the West” with Seth MacFarlane. She expressed her reluctance to spend six months of the year in London, where the “Guardians” movies were filmed.
In the Marvel franchise, Zoe Saldaña famously portrayed Gamora, the green-skinned heroine. Saldaña has appeared in all three “Guardians” films as well as the Avengers movies, earning critical acclaim for her performances.

Reflecting on her decision, Seyfried expressed concerns about potentially being associated with a Marvel movie that underperformed at the box office. She admitted, “I assumed that this would be Marvel’s first bomb and that Chris Pratt and I would never collaborate again because it was about a talking tree and a talking raccoon. Oh, I was mistaken.”
Contrary to her fears, the “Guardians” franchise proved to be a massive success, grossing over $2 billion worldwide between 2014 and 2023. Despite this, Seyfried stands by her decision, stating that she was “way too scared” at the time.
She explained, “I didn’t want to suffer for the work because I was at a precarious moment in my career. I simply wasn’t interested in doing it because I had already done some green screen work and it wasn’t my style.”
Seyfried concluded by saying, “I have no regrets about any of my decisions. I made it for myself, and it was beneficial to me then and now.”
