IMANI Africa Founder Alleges Plot to Remove IGP Dampare
Franklin Cudjoe, the Founder of IMANI Africa, has raised concerns about an alleged plot by the outgoing Akufo-Addo administration to remove the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr George Akuffo Dampare. Cudjoe claims that Dr Dampare is being targeted for his role in ensuring the just-ended 2024 elections were free and fair.
Cudjoe took to Facebook to share his insights, stating that reliable intelligence suggests the current IGP is facing harassment and threats of removal from office due to his stance against election rigging attempts. He commended Dr Dampare for standing up for peaceful and transparent elections and preventing the government from implementing its alleged rigging plans.
The IMANI Africa Founder further alleged that the Electoral Commission (EC) is collaborating with government elements to pressure election security services into supporting a re-collation of votes in nine constituencies. According to Cudjoe, these efforts are part of a broader scheme to overturn the election results in favor of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
He praised the Electoral Security Services for rejecting alleged requests from the EC to manipulate results that had declared the National Democratic Congress (NDC) victorious. Cudjoe emphasized the importance of upholding the integrity of the election outcomes and safeguarding Ghana’s democracy.
Expressing concern over potential moves to replace Dr Dampare with a puppet to aid in election rigging, Cudjoe warned against such actions. He called on President-elect John Dramani Mahama, the NDC, and all Ghanaians to resist any attempts to undermine the election results and protect the democratic process.
The allegations surfaced amidst ongoing tensions following the 2024 elections, where the NDC emerged victorious and John Dramani Mahama was declared President-elect. As of now, the NPP has not responded to the claims made by Franklin Cudjoe.
