Christiana Agyapong Vows Youth Employment Focus if Husband Elected President
Christiana Agyapong, the wife of New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful Kennedy Agyapong, has made a commitment that her husband will prioritize youth employment if he is elected as president.
Speaking to supporters, she positioned her husband’s candidacy as a continuation of the NPP’s tradition of implementing social welfare programs. She highlighted previous initiatives such as Kufuor’s free maternal care and Akufo-Addo’s Free SHS program as examples of the party’s commitment to reaching households with beneficial policies.
Emphasizing the link between education and opportunity, Christiana stated that her husband’s primary goal is to ensure that young people have access to jobs after completing their education. Kennedy Agyapong, a former Assin Central MP and a leading contender for the NPP’s January 2026 primaries, is positioning himself as a fresh candidate for the 2028 general election, aiming to tap into voter dissatisfaction with the current economic situation.
This promise comes at a time when Ghana is grappling with high levels of youth unemployment. While critics have pointed out that similar pledges have not always been fulfilled in the past, Christiana is confident in her husband’s ability to deliver, citing his experience in creating jobs through his businesses.
The NPP will make its candidate selection in the next 18 months, providing a test of whether Agyapong’s message resonates beyond the party’s core supporters.
