The upcoming men’s and women’s marathons at the Paris Olympics are generating a buzz as some of Africa’s top distance runners are expected to dominate the competition. With the races set to close out the Olympics, fans are eagerly anticipating what promises to be a fierce battle for the medals.

World Athletics CEO, Jon Ridgeon, has expressed his excitement for the marathon events, stating that they are among the highlights of the Olympics. He highlighted the potential historic achievement of Kenyan runner Eliud Kipchoge winning a third gold medal, which would be a groundbreaking feat in the sport.

The marathon course in Paris has been described as the toughest in major championship history, with challenging hill climbs at 15km and 28km that will test the endurance of the athletes. This unique course is expected to make the races more unpredictable and exciting, with no clear favorite for the win.

While the podium finishers may not mirror those of the traditional Marathon Majors, the Paris Marathons offer a diverse and dynamic showcase of marathon talent. Additionally, for the first time ever, a mass participation marathon will run parallel to the Olympic events, allowing Parisians to join in the running festivities.

The Paris Olympics have garnered widespread attention for their inclusive and universal spirit, with athletes from all nations competing on the world stage. Despite global tensions, the games have showcased the unifying power of sport, with athletes from different backgrounds coming together to celebrate their talents and achievements.

World Athletics President, Sebastian Coe, emphasized the significance of the Olympics in bringing people together through sport. With over 200 member federations participating in the games, the Olympics have become a symbol of unity and diversity in the sporting world.
